The Eternyll are the original Elven race from which all other types of elves descend. Before the Fonts of Power came to be, before Avatars and before even death itself had become known to Evernyll, the Eternyll lived their immortal lives in peace with their planet. This is known as the Era of Stasis, when there was no hunger, no living need unfulfilled, and all life was eternal.
History from this period is difficult to parse, as there was little need for record-keeping when history lived and walked with the deathless Elves. What is widely known is that this era of peace ended with the rise of a brutal civil war, which completely destroyed the Eternyll way of life. Many fled their capital, avoiding the war, and escaping with their lives. Those who remained would fight until the city itself was levelled by an unknown power.
The destruction of the city and its people, the violence and fury they had displayed against their own kind, had an irrevocable effect on the world of Evernyll. As death was introduced to the planet, its own balance was thrown out of stasis, and eruptions of magical energy began to open around the world. In the ruined city, amid thousands of the dead and dying, the first Font of Power came to be- a Font of Death.
The magic of this Death Font mutated any Eternyll who were still within the ruins and rubble. They were cursed with mortality, and physically changed until they were no longer Elven at all. These sorry souls would be the first of the Human race. The remaining Eternyll, who had fled the war and avoided its fallout, would eventually return to discover these accursed people.
The Eternyll were shaken by the way Evernyll had changed, and by the Fonts of Power that seemed to arise where nature was most powerful. The Fonts brought new types of magic into the world, but it was chaotic, and difficult to control. It did not follow the same logic as their former Arcane spells, and it mutated living things that came too near. Their home was destroyed, they new now what it was to feel pain, and hunger. And it had come about from the failures of their own society. When they returned to their ruins to find the Humans living there, they may as well have been looking at mutated wretches.
The Eternyll were fractured by disagreement once again. There was a firm belief that Humans needed to be exterminated, in order to return Evernyll to its former stasis, to their lives of peace and stability. But most Elves believed that there was no going back, and that more bloodshed would only further disrupt the natural order of the planet. Those who could not abide another war would split into many new factions, opting to instead seek out the Fonts of Power, and try to adapt with the new world. These would eventually become the originators of the many Elven Subtypes, whose diversity is a wonder of Evernyll's magical power. Those who remained, would forever remain Eternyll. And to these Elves, who wished for nothing more than a return to normalcy, the Human genocide became their sacred mission.
The Eternyll would not be successful in eradicating the Human race. Additionally, the animals they had once shared a peaceful world with had now been elevated forming the Omnimal races, who often had troubling conflicts amongst themselves. Even other Eternyll, once their own people, were splitting and transforming into new types of Elves, mutated by the magic of the Fonts of Power - the Astryll, the Cinderyll, and many more. Humans were only becoming stronger and more capable of defending themselves, the longer their war dragged on. With no other choice, the Eternyll would eventually admit defeat, and retreat to form a new capital for themselves.
A last beacon of a world that once was, the Eternyll are now focused once more on their own culture and way of life. They remain immortal, though can be killed, and have the needs of hunger, thirst, and sleep. They often live their lives in pursuit of some great ambition, often scholarly or creative. Despite a history of strife and turmoil, they are a fiercely proud people.
The Eternyll are masters of Arcane magic, the original magic, and they still see themselves as the true pinnacle of culture and philosophy. Most discourage the use of Fonts to awaken what they see as chaotic and lowly magics. Additionally, they resent other elves for moving away from their way of life, and see them as mutated individuals.
Still, this pearl-clutching does not come close to the absolute disdain they continue to feel for humans, whom many Eternyll see as downright accursed. They see all additional races who followed after the humans to be twice-accursed, and equally distasteful. They also have little tolerance for Omnimals, whom they have trouble distinguishing from the lowly beasts they descended from.
With their ancient culture and isolationist views, the Eternyll are often seen as self-centered and dismissive. To themselves, however, they are the beginning and the end of existence on Evernyll, and they will remain strong long after all other people have risen and fallen back into nothing.
